"If you concentrate on finding whatever is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul." ~ Rabbi Harold Kushner ~

I recently facilitated a Chakra healing workshop on the Throat Chakra. In the course of the research I carried out for this topic, I discovered some interesting information!

·         The throat chakra is also known as the Cornucopia Centre, and is responsible for expressing and manifesting your desires.

·         It is also the gratitude centre, because, as we all know, if you are not grateful for what you have, you won’t get more!

Since then I have had an old Sunday School chorus running through my head, which some of you may remember (I went to a Methodist Sunday School, and they were big on singing choruses!)

It goes like this:

Count your blessings, count them one by one,

Count your blessings see what God has done,

Count your blessings, count them every one,

And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

For a few days after the workshop, every time something happened which was unpleasant or unwelcome, I hummed this little song to myself, and looked for the silver lining of the situation. Strangely enough, by about day four nothing was bothering me any more, and that silver lining was clearly apparent...

There is a blessing in every situation whether it is immediately apparent or not. If you thank Spirit, or the Universe, or the Source, or whatever you call it, then you are in a state of gratitude. When you are in a state of gratitude, there is space in your life for more…

This can be a hard lesson to learn, especially in a situation where everyone around you is negative, and grumbling, and complaining about everything. We get into a habit of being negative, of looking at the worst of our lives instead of focusing on the best of our lives. In our workshop, we learned that to keep your throat chakra healthy you must express your feelings – BUT – there is an enormous difference between expressing your feelings and whining about your life. Express your feelings about the situation, get it off your chest, but then focus on the positive of it, not the negative. Wallowing in self-pity is not healthy for you or your throat chakra!

I generally turn to Louise Hay to help me get out of these negative mind sets with some positive affirmations. I love her assertion about negativity: “it’s only a thought, and a thought can be changed”.

So, if you are in need of a gratitude boost, think of your blessings - and here are some positive thoughts to get you going!

"You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you."
